Running a telecoms retailer, end to end
Point of sale in the shops, a billing engine for call records, and a portal where customers download their bills: fourteen years of continuous development.

The client
A telecoms retailer with high-street shops, selling phones, airtime and international calling.
The challenge
Call records arrived from several networks in different formats, customers expected one accurate bill on time every month, and the shops, airtime and international calling all had to work from the same customer records.
What we built
The systems behind the shops and the back office:
- Point of sale and customer records for the shops
- A billing engine that imports call records from the networks, prices them against tariffs and bolt-ons, and produces monthly bills
- Top-ups for international calling accounts
- Credit checks, card payments and text messaging
- A website where customers see and download their bills
Fourteen years
The platform grew with the business from 2010 to 2024, adding new networks, payment providers and services along the way, until the business closed.
Technical details
A Windows point-of-sale client and back office, a customer web portal (ASP.NET MVC with an Umbraco public site), and background services that import and rate call-detail records and generate PDF bills, all on SQL Server.
